I had the bestest day today! After playing netball last night and taking a tumble (why do I play again?) - grazing my right knee rather nicely, I woke up in a bit of a funk this morning. 5.30am is just not my best look!Anyway, I had lots to do...Tidy the house a little, bake a sponge cake, make a shopping list, do dishes, go to the supermarket, decorate sponge with lashings of whipped cream and strawberries, make a stuffed cob loaf, take a shower and prepare a scrumptious antipasto platter. All before 10.30. Whew!At 11 o'clock my dear friends Tracie, Leah and Kim arrived for a day filled with food, fun and laughter.Yes, we put the world to rights, decided on a night out next week, organised the details of our Christmas holiday, drank copious amounts of coffee and gorged ourselves on yummy food. What more could one want from a Friday? The children played happily together all day, and we finally ended it at about 5 o'clock this afternoon. With leftovers from lunch and sandwiches for dinner, all that remained for me was to wash up and relax with a lovely hot cup of tea in front of the fire with my copy of Romantic Homes magazine (which came in the post yesterday) - utter bliss :)I am feeling all recharged now, so will say goodnight as I am off to make a batch of Castile soap - a wonderfully gentle soap made from olive oil, perfect for handmilling...
Do you like my new banner? (Look up).
I made it myself - clever aren't I?
Now I'm aware that some of you will think "well, that's easy". Let me tell you, for me, it's definitely quite an achievement! LOL I am not finding the whole HTML thing easy at all! But I persevere - one day I'll get the hang of it. I'm not up to creating stunning web pages just yet though...
Anyway, I put it up there so you will never forget how to find my shop LOL (Yes, it's a link!)
Today was one of those days where you get motivated and it all flies out the window. I popped up to the shops to pick up a little thingy I needed to finish decorating my soapcakes, and was planning to come straight home - honestly I was! But I rang my friend tracie to say hi and ended up going over for a "quick" cuppa and catch-up which lasted somewhere in the region of four hours...
The children (whom I had left at home in the care of Miss Gabbie), professed to be fading away from hunger in several text messages I received LOL
I swear, we do have food in the house - it's just they seem to think if it's not instant, it's too hard *rolls eyes*
So that was my extremely unproductive day. I'm on a mission tomorrow to create those little candles, and a "manly" bar of shampoo/soap (would that be soapoo do you think?) - something I think is sure to go down well in this house at least :)
Wish me luck!
Fancy a cupcake anyone? I hope they look good enough to eat.
But I don't recommend taking a bite of these lovelies :) You see they are soaps. Yes that's right, I spent my days making cakes of soap - literally! LOL
Lavender cupcake soaps - soon to be on sale in my store (once I have prettied them up a little). Opinions anyone?
Let's see, what else...
I received my lovely parcel from Gena at Patra's Other Place. What a delight that was! A vintage cup and saucer, and spoon, teabags, a pretty doily - all in a wonderful tin. I am so spoiled :) Thank you Gena, I loved it lots.
Thanks to the rain (not complaining!) I still haven't caught up on the laundry, but am getting a couple of loads a day done and dried. Folding is mounting up fast though!
Is it just me? Once I get going on the creative stuff, the housework just goes out the window. I can't seem to find a way to get both things done in a day - and in a house with three munchkins roaming about, it sure gets untidy mighty fast! Aah well, they are on holidays at the moment, now might be the time to get them working! LOL
Oh, my mum has finally gone and got herself a blog too :) I'm not sure if she wants me to let you know, but I'm gonna anyway. Go and say hi to her - she's a good mamma :) You can find her at Robyn's Place Hi Mum!!
I still haven't ventured near the sewing machine - I'm having too much fun in the kitchen, creating non-edible items LOL. Next on the list is sparkly, smelly (in a nice way) tealight candles. I'll just keep them away from Alison Heehee.Well friends, that's all for now, talk soon...------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Edited to add: I have decided to publish the link to the store...there isn't a lot in there at the moment, but I'm working on it! LOL
Come visit me at Amethyst Grove Online and tell me what you think!
Hello everyone! Wasn't really a very long break now was it? To tell you the truth, it's not the odd posting that takes the time, it's reading all my favourite blogs and catching up with you lovey people that takes up the time LOL. Anyway, I thought that maybe I can blog once or twice a week...
So, I have just returned from Toowoomba, where Miss Brooklyn was at State Netball Championships. It was very cold. Very, very cold.
The team came fourth out of twelve - a pretty good effort I must say! They played eleven games over four days. One of the girls on Broke's team made the State team, but I'm glad that Brooke didn't make it - some of those defence players are HUGE - she would have been squashed!! She enjoyed the experience and made some new friends, so that's the main thing.
Here she is shhoting a goal. Cute uniforms, aren't they?
That is pretty much the only news in the last week. I have come home to a house that needs some serious attention, and a washing basket overflowing with dirty laundry *sigh*
Some things never change.
Now that the netball is pretty much out of the way for this year, I can get stuck into making lots of goodies for my shop. It may be time for a bit of fabric shopping :)
I took delivery of an enormous amount of wheat and lavender flowers before I went away - heat packs here I come! I also plan to make lip balm and soap this week (I am still working on a good recipe to make a really hard soap suitable for grating - so I can turn it into laundry powder), plus finding some fabric to make very cute tea towels. Some embroidery is in order too.
I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to getting into some crafting and making - it seems like an awful long time since I did anything remotely creative!
But before all that happens, I need to check my postbox, which I have neglected for about 2 weeks! The lovely Gina (from Patra's Other Place) has sent me my teatime swap parcel, and I ca't wait to see it! While I'm at the Post Office I will send off her swap goodies...
Well my friends, that's all for now - stay safe and happy! Talk soon...
Hello my friends.I wanted to let you all know that I will be taking a blogger hiatus for a little while.I am focusing on my website and trying to make it as fabulous as I can, and it takes time...I'm feeling guilty that I haven't got the time to visit you all and catch up, so hence the announcement. I'm really not intentionally neglecting you :) I promise!I have pages to write for the store, product to stock, fripperies to make and promote, and a list as long as my arm of OPP's (other people's projects). Thanks to netball, I haven't been able to get around to them as soon as I'd like. (One more week and it settles down considerably).I hope you don't forget me :( I will visit when I can, and of course, you'll be the first to know when Amethyst Grove - The Store is up and running properly!Much love, take good care of yourselves and your lovely families, and I will see you back here real soon...Suzie xxx
We are home.
It has been a long, sleep-deprived weekend.
The girls did very well, winning 5 out of their 7 games - two games were cancelled due to the rain. And it rained! And blew bone-chilling gusts of wind when the rain finally stopped.
Here are the netball stars of the future...
Brooke is the one wearing the black beanie.
I will post more tomorrow, right now, I need to catch up on some much-needed sleep.
And I shouldn't complain - after all, we need every drop of rain we can get. However, I want to know...
a) Why is it always on a holiday weekend that it rains? and
b) Why does it rain whenever my girls are playing in a netball carnival?
I sent Miss Brooklyn off yesterday and decided not to go up myself until this afternoon. She has one of my very good friends with her (who also happens to be the sports trainer for the team), and I know she is being looked after.
However, I am fidgety today LOL. I am ALWAYS with the girls when they go away to play, and it doesn't sit too comfortably not being there this morning. I have spoken to my friend already this morning, and the girls are all fine, Brooke is doing great, and they are playing as I sit and type this.
4 games today, 4 games tomorrow and one on Monday morning.
Right then, I need to go and make sure that Sweetie has enough food and money so that he can take care of himself for the next 2 nights, and pack a few clothes for Miss Gabbie and myself.
I'll tell you all about it on Tuesday morning - expect pictures! LOL
Take care everyone, and have a wonderful weekend...
Yesterday ended up being reasonably interesting after all - to me, anyway.
After dropping the car off at the mechanics in the morning, I made my way to netball - I was very good and only played half a game, as my ankle is still a bit sore. But I did strap it :)
Afterwards, two friends and myself went to lunch (always a pleasant distraction), and I found presents for baby Cooper.
Upon picking my car up I was most amazed at the cost - a full $150 cheaper than Sweetie's car service a few weeks ago! And I got new brakes, window wipers and rotated tyres! I use a local mechanic - have done for years, while Sweetie insists on going to the dealer. Well, I don't think he will be anymore!
When the children arrived home from their busy day at school, we piled into the car and drove to see the new addition to the family. He is beautiful, just perfect :) We took lots of photos, and all three kids got to have a cuddle (after me of course!). If you look at the photo below, you will see Harry with his baby cousin - and our house guest who arrived yesterday too!
Yes, Norm the Gnome is here - he had a very long journey from the States, so will not be staying with us too long, but he was very excited to finally get to Australia, and has been very well-behaved (I think he is very tired).
Today is a quiet day I hope. I'm planning to stay in and clean a little, but I do need to get some labels, so that may require a trip this afternoon. I'll see how I feel :) Maybe if Norm helps me with the housework we can go sightseeing around town...
Really, you all must think I am the most boring person - and it's true, I am! LOLI was going to post about the trials and tribulations of yesterday and my plans for today, but then I thought - is anyone interested? Ego takes over and of course I would love to think you find my life fascinating, but most of the time, even I don't find my days anything to get excited about.I'm not a writer - I just don't have that knack of making everyday things sound poetic (I wish I did). I read other's blogs and am riveted by their tales of what they did in the laundry or their child's latest episode. Some have a way with words that are wasted here on blogger - they should be published! But I'm very happy they are around making my day a little brighter :)So that is why you will sometimes find days go by between posts here - they are the days when I am at home, playing the domestic goddess and doing nothing more exciting than sweeping the floors and rearranging furniture.Maybe one day my life will become an adventure, but to tell you the truth, I hope not. I like my uneventful existence just fine thanks.-------------------------------------------------------------In case you ARE interested (LOL) the car is going in for a service today, and I am playing netball - that's it...Talk soon...
Well, I am a slack sister - I haven't been to see the new babba yet. I will wait until tey are home for two reasons...
One: It's a long drive to the hospital, and I have to be back early today to take Brooke to training on the Gold Coast (another long drive), and
Two: She will be inundated with visitors, and I know what I was like when I was in having my kids - I wanted to be on my own!
How is it, that when I turn my back for a minute, the laundry pile magically multiplies? I never seem to be caught up - to tell you the truth, I think my kids have far too many clothes and I need to donate some to Goodwill! Guess what I am doing today then?
Actually, I find it soothing to hang the washing on the line on a sunny winter's day, with nothing but birdsong to disturb the peace :) Granted, the birds may be noisy crows and kookaburras, but that is what reminds me I am in Australia.
I'm also making soap today. Lots of soap. Soap to turn into scrumptiously scented laundry powder for my shop. And soap for soap's sake :) I love soap LOL
Sadly, I haven't yet made it into my craft room to clean up in there. But it certainly is on "the list".
I have talked my mum into giving me a hand - she is going to cut out all the fabrics for me, so I can get on with the biz of sewing aprons and bags. Thanks Mum!
The rest of the week will be spent getting ready to go away on Friday for netball. We are leaving in the morning and will be back late Monday night. So I need to make sure there is enough food in the house for Sweetie to take care of himself for a few days :)
And then we will do it all again next week!!
Enough rambling from me for one day, I need to get on with all these things :)
Yes, that's right. I get to stay home this weekend. Apart from Saturday morning, there is no netball! I get to recover a little before the onslaught of the next two weeks :)
Saturday evening, we are going to a Trivia Night, to raise funds for the local High School band - I get to go out and prove I'm not just a clueless blonde! (Hopefully LOL)
And Sunday? Well, I thought I had nothing planned, but I have a baby shower to attend. That I don't mind :)
Speaking of babies, my sister is in hospital at this very moment. She has been induced, but my little nephew is being stubborn about it, with contractions starting and stopping, and understandably, my sister has lost her sense of humour about it all. But I would think that sometime today, I will be an auntie again! I will let you know when it happens...3.30pm: No baby yet...Update: At 7.29pm on Saturday June 3rd, baby Cooper was born weighing 8lb 9oz!
Well, here I am at 8am eating chocolate chippie biscuits (Gabbie made 'em last night) for breakfast, because I haven't done any grocery shopping in an age, and we don't even have bread in the house! I have been far too busy rearranging the house to go shopping LOL.That's what I did yesterday, change the lounge room around, and putter a bit - ok, a lot :)Really, I should have been making things, because my little online shop is now ready to be set up! Yay! Of course it has taken so long, and I was getting quite disheartened about it all, and have next to nothing organised for it. Maybe I'll let it be until I get back from all these netball trips - I get home on June 21st. Anyway, I am Amethyst Grove - at least I won't forget the name of it! LOL And it suits well enough, the kind of things I will be selling. So there you go - "Amethyst Grove" For A Lovely Life. Don't go looking for me yet, I haven't done the technical stuff to set it up :)Now, I am trying to re-organise my schedule to fit in regular work hours, but I have decided it's very hard to do, when the kid's schedules change every couple of weeks or so. Do any of you have this problem? And how do I make it so I don't have to do up a new list every couple of weeks? I should warn you here, I write everything down in half hour increments - if I give myself too much leeway, nothing ever gets done! Again, maybe I should wait until at least after the netball trips...But any hints would be gratefully received :)Just for fun, here is a copy of one of my daily lists:
